Octal D-Type Edge-Triggered Flip-Flop with Inverted 3-State Outputs manufactured by Harris Semiconductor (RCA design origin, later Texas Instruments). This high-speed CMOS memory storage register packs eight separate D-type flip-flop latches sharing a common clock pin and an active-low output-enable control line into a 20-pin package. It functions by simultaneously capturing a full 8-bit byte of digital data from a system bus on the rising edge of the clock signal, locking that data securely while outputting the exact logical complement (inverted bits) of the stored data across its 3-state output lines. It saw pervasive use as an inverted output latch, an address accumulator, or a high-performance bus driver in 1980s personal computers, custom instrumentation arrays, and digital video processing boards.
